In case you've been sleeping under a rock (or, like I've been the last few months--busy as hell), Droughts is an emotional hardcore band from Chicago-era. Pulling influences from what seems to be literally every style of alternative music, they've created masterpieces twice-over already (Once, with their Unmoved EP, secondly with their Split with William Bonney), and are going for a solid third. This song, "Deaf Grin," isn't a reinvention of the Droughts wheel, but is actually more stylistically in sync with Unmoved. All that to say: this song kicks ass like Droughts always has, and I'm more excited than anyone that they're getting the recognition they deserve.
This is an incredible split, as you've no doubt already known of it, and Droughts being on it makes my heart so happy, I could cry tears of gold. Wonderful release from one of the best bands in the nation, and one of my personal favorites.

After a four year hiatus, Texas powerhouse DIE YOUNG return with a brand new EP entitled "Chosen Path". Die Young entered the studio this past November to record this EP which is full of brand new material and revisiting two older tracks they wanted to to reconquer for a split 7" with Brazil's Confronto. Below is a rough mix of the title track of the upcoming "Chosen Path" EP - recorded at Origin Sound in Spring, TX (Bitter End, Venomous Maximus, Iron Age, Will to Live, etc) with Craig Douglas overseeing engineering.
The "Chosen Path" EP is set for an early 2014 vinyl release in the U.S. via Headfirst! Records and on CD in South America by Vegan Records. details for the vinyl release in Europe via Ugly and Proud Records to be announced at a later date.
Each choice made
A step towards my fate
A journey that cannot be undone
To live with the weight of my mistakes
And grow stronger as I carry on
The days of lashing out at everything
And biting the hand that feeds
Only wore me down
Now I'm left to reap what I had sown
Perhaps I've felt this broken before
Losing battles and losing the war
To stand in the fire and feel its burn
Suffer 'til there's nothing left to learn
What else can one do?
Keep lifting through the pain
Through years of trial and error
You learn to see things a little bit clearer
No matter how the world unravels,
The greatest war to be won
Is within yourself
"This is the path you chose"
And there's no turning back
So now I must collect myself
Pick up the pieces of shattered dreams
And learn the way of grace:
To make use of suffering
Each choice made - a step towards fate
A journey that can't be undone
Keep lifting through the pain
In spite of everything.

We at Toxicbreed's Funhouse are EXTREMELY excited to bring you a full stream of the new KDC full length entitled "The Veracity of Solitude". I (Wayne) was lucky enough to book this band in Southern California this past November and was completely blown away by their set.
For those of you unfamiliar with KDC, here's a quick rundown. Originally hailing from Puerto Rico, KDC members packed their bags and moved to New York in 2009 to continue to do what they love on a consistent level. After years of touring the country and releasing various Demos, EPs, and Splits along the way, KDC finally found a home over at Head 2 Wall Records who will be releasing the forthcoming LP (which is produced by Andy Nelson of Weekend Nachos fame) on this December.

Here we have a split of absolutely epic proportions: the first new material from sludge powerhouse Noothgrush in over a decade, as well as two crushing contributions from Japanese death metal band Coffins, coming together to make up one of the most ludicrously heavy split releases to drop this year.
Lets start with the 3 new Noothgrush songs. Noothgrush are widely known as one of the heaviest and darkest bands in existence, and their recent resurgence with none other than Dystopia vocalist Anthony "Dino" Sommese has been an exciting revelation to say the least. When I caught the band live at a miami punk festival in July of last year, his vocals molded to their material perfectly and together forged what might be the bleakest incarnation of the band to date, if these three crushing tracks from their side of the split is anything to go by. Unrelentingly dark and heavy, their side of the split lumbers along at a glacial pace but delivers it's blows with the force of a sledgehammer, annihilating all in it's path through a fury of pure hate and nihilism. It's clear that this band never missed a beat in their time apart, and it's a truely amazing treat for all doom/sludge metal fans to have them active again. One can only hope that there is more new material to come.
On the other side of the split we have Coffins, another one of the absolute heaviest bands out there right now. Their noisy and sludge influenced brand of death/doom metal is as raw as it gets, and the two songs they contribute serve as the perfect end piece to one of the most unrelentingly intense split LP's in quite sometime. These two bands end up being a perfect fit for one another, and one cannot help but be very excited for the hope of new material from both bands in the coming year. Noothgrush's return has been long awaited in metal/punk circles and the wait was well worth it indeed, while Coffins continue on their path of destruction in crafting some of the heaviest death metal yet to be seen. A mandatory listen for anyone into heavy music period, and one of the best splits to come out in an already incredible year, this is most definitely not to be missed.

In other news, Illinois Boys Ghost Key debuted a new song yesterday. Taking strides from their Winter EP, they've gone balls out with faster verses, more melodic breaks, and Austin must've been practicing in the mirror for the last 9 months because, goddamn, these vocals are spine-tingling. The lyrics are still hard-hitting, still self-loathing, and still exactly what a melodic hardcore band should be screaming. If Sinking Ships and Shai Hulud had a child together, Ghost Key would beat that child to death with a stone, for it's inheritance--like fucking Cain and Abel. Cursed forever, forever pissed.

1. A Pedestal To Support The Invaders
Via Dodgy Sounds (Chris Dodge's personal blog): In the 90's, Eric Wood used Man Is The Bastard as a vehicle to broaden the scope of extreme music, by merging violent instruments and vocals with searing electronics. A unique combination that has since inspired untold legions of musicians and noisemakers alike. Wood and I had been friends since about 1988, and aside from my occasional guest vocals with MITB, we had never collaborated musically.
In 1999 I finally got off my ass and figured out how to create some decent noise tracks, something other than simply looping distortion and delay pedals. Out of this exploration, JESUS PHILBIN was born. I released the "Subterranean Electronic Blasphemy" album on Jon Kortland's (Iron Lung / Gob / Pig Heart Transplant / Dead Language) label Satan's Pimp. After that followed a handful of smaller releases. But I'd never performed live, doing the noise thing.
In 2001, I moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles and after spending many hours with Mr. Wood, a collaboration was eminent. MITB had broken up, and BASTARD NOISE was going strong with a stripped down line up of only Eric Wood and John Wiese. After much discussion (and ultimately a show invite from Enterruption), Wood, Wiese, and I ended up collaborating live... strangely enough back up in San Francisco. I returned to SF a year after moving. I had worked so hard to escape The City in 2001, and finally had the mental wherewithal to return. The former dotcom douchebag-generating conveyor belt had finally ceased operation, and many parts of SF looked like a ghost town. A "new economy" based solely on greed had finally collapsed, leaving a swath of vacant storefronts and a lack of culture in its path. The perfect setting for an electronic onslaught.
This is the only recording of BASTARD NOISE and JESUS PHILBIN, Wiese / Wood / Dodge. It was released many years ago as the first track on the long out of print Bastard Noise "Sound Engine" CD.

Preorders are up now for their debut 12" EP. FFO: Botch, Joshua Fit For Battle, Loma Prieta, Architect, Twerking.
After two splits and an initial demo effort. Seattle’s Mercy Ties delivers an installation of pure, unadulterated chaos translated into the form of sound. This intense treatment is broken up into seven tracks where they display not only their signature “mathy” traits, but a whole other dimension of d-beat, stripped down hardcore punk never seen before in the previous work. Working in tandem, they bounce effortlessly between the two with hair raising fast bridges, to unrelenting charging bars throughout the session. Not to mention there are some keynote breaks that display a unforgiving measure of heaviness for a band of their caliber. Recorded with Paurl Walsh (X-Ray Press) at The Red Room and mastered by the legendary Carl Saff (Young Widows, Kid Crash, Pygmy Lush, Coliseum). Limited 1st pressing of 300 on vinyl with a 5-panel, full color jacket. Comes with digital download.

As the end of the year nears closer, it seems we still have quite a few impressive hardcore releases to look forward to, including this excellent split between hardcore warriors Spine and The Repos. Each band rips through 4 tracks of some of their best material laid to tape yet as well as closing out each of their sides with a cover of the other band. Spine continues to impress with the same punishing brand of fast hardcore that they displayed on their excellent demo and "Subhuman" release. They are quickly becoming one of the most vicious bands out right now and this new material has me even more anxious to hear their forthcoming LP dropping on Youth Attack next year. The Repos have always been an awesome band their side of the split proves that is still very much the case. Their furious punk energy is a great counterbalance to Spine's more straightforward hardcore approach, and as such this split begs to be put on repeat indefinitely. Put simply: Any fan of sincere punk and hardcore owes it to themselves to give this split from two great bands a listen ASAP, and thanks to Bad Teeth Recordings, you can download a copy to hear right now from the link below, as well as check out another link to order a physical copy of the split, so enjoy and pick one up if you dig it, which is almost certain.

Society's Zero Lyrics:
You see me in society and you don't like what you see
A threat to your existence, you just can't leave me be
Still strangling in this deep end, you see I've lost control
You see what life has dealt me, you try and play the roll
Back to the wall
If there's a chance, you would spit right in my face
Back to the wall
I still can't keep up from this losing race
Back to the wall
Can't keep my head up, my will is also weak
Back to the wall
My arms are also heavy, you will only let me sink
I REFUSE TO FALL IN LINE, AS THE BLIND MISLEAD THE BLIND.

California band Badblood has been churning out some of the heaviest crust influenced metallic hardcore since their inception a few years ago, and their new release End Me finds them offering up their most intense recordings to date. This EP finds the band bringing together the crusty hardcore sounds of bands like His Hero Is Gone mixed with the crushing and miserable sounding sludge of bands such as Corrupted and Eyehategod to great effect. The 3 songs on this release never let up and continue to deliver one insanely heavy section after the next. This is also by far the best sounding recordings the band has released to date. All 3 of these songs have their standout moments, and the band never lets up in their outright intensity throughout making for a very cohesive listening experience that deserves many repeated listens. Fans of the newer breed of heavier metallic hardcore bands on the rise such as Dead In The Dirt, Homewrecker and Weekend Nachos owe it to themselves to check this release out (streaming below via bandcamp). It should be mentioned as well that you can also download the rest of the band's material via bandcamp on a pay what you want basis as well. I am very much looking forward to hearing a full length from Badblood, and suspect that they will continue to turn heads if the material on this EP is any impression to go by.

As many of you probably remember, I (Wayne) decided to go forth and attempt a printed zine at the end of 2012. After a million delays the first issue was approved to head to the printers. 100 copies later and the zine is officially sold out physically. So to celebrate this awesome occasion, I've made the first issue of the zine available online for free viewing / download.
Issue #001 features interviews with Chris Dodge (Spazz / Slap-A-Ham Records), Chris Colohan (Burning Love/Left For Dead/Cursed), Ev Wivell (Mindset / React Records), Spencer Hazard (Full Of Hell), and many many more.
Please visit http://joom.ag/xH0X for the free viewing / download. Thanks again for the ongoing support and I hope you all enjoy.
